Foster With SVACA
Foster parents provide temporary, in-home care for dogs, cats, and their offspring. You provide the love and care, and we’ll provide the supplies and support!
Kittens and puppies are the most common foster needs, typically staying in care until they reach eight weeks old and two pounds. Some animals with medical or behavioral needs may require longer stays in a quiet home.
Fostering saves lives—join us in giving these animals the second chance they deserve!
Who would make a good foster parent?
Anyone who loves animals and is willing to donate their time, providing lots of tender love and care.
What are the requirements?
To become a foster parent, you must be at least 18 years old. If you have resident animals, you’ll need a separate room to safely house foster animals separately from resident animals, and your animals must be up to date on vaccinations. Additionally, all adult household members must approve your participation.
Application - Currently Closed
Our foster application is currently closed. We expect it to reopen in March 2026.
What costs are involved?
Your main responsibility as a foster parent is to provide a clean, safe, and nurturing environment for your foster animals. To support you, SVACA provides food, necessary supplies, and approved veterinary care.
What happens to the animal after I return them?
For underage animals, once they reach at least eight weeks old and weigh two pounds, they will return to our Animal Care Center for necessary medical care, including spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, and vaccinations. Afterward, they will be placed for adoption.
We encourage foster caregivers to share their observations and experiences to help us find the best placement for each animal. If you or someone you know is interested in adopting your foster animal, please email our staff. However, all adoptions must go through SVACA’s standard adoption process.
We understand that saying goodbye to a foster animal can be difficult, but please know that because of you, they now have a chance to find a loving, permanent home. SVACA staff will do their best to match each animal with the right family.
