SVACA's Save Rates Soared in 2019!

Post Date:02/07/2020 10:45 AM

Chonk Kittens (Calicos and Tuxedo) 7 - SVACA 190504We're bursting with excitement to share that SVACA's overall save rate for 2019 was 97%, our highest save rate yet, and a 2% rise from the year before! As a municipal shelter, we're proud of this accomplishment, but, we couldn't do our job without the help and support of our community!

Since our inception on July 1, 2001, we have worked diligently to deliver top notch, progressive services to our community and its animals. From day one, we were determined to operate a premier center and have accomplished so much since the opening of our cageless Animal Care Center in November of 2006.

SVACA's Animal Care Center is "open door" or "open admission" which means we receive all stray animals that come our way whether they are aggressive, feral, sick or injured. We also receive owner surrendered animals from our member agency cities. Due to the hard work of our staff and volunteers along with the support of our Board of Directors, we have steadily improved our live release rate.

In 2019, we achieved a 97% overall live release rate and saved all healthy and treatable animals. 98% of dogs, 96% of cats, and 100% of 'other' animals were saved.  These figures meet how "no kill" shelters are often measured; all healthy and treatable animals or at least 90% saved.
